About me

Marine geoscientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Barcelona

I am a researcher in marine geosciences and an Assistant Professor at the University of Barcelona (UB). With a BSc in Environmental Sciences (UAB), an MSc in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management (UB) and a PhD in Marine Sciences (UB), I have built a career centred on human impacts on the ocean, combining research with knowledge transfer aimed at environmental management.

My career falls into three periods. In the first (2012–2014), at the UAB Radioactivity Laboratory, I began working with natural radioactive tracers to quantify submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) — a line of work that led, during my PhD, to a widely cited methodological contribution applied to real cases in Portmán Bay (Murcia). The second period (2015–2020), as a predoctoral researcher at the UB, connected coastal hydrogeology with applied marine geoscience, including a research stay at the Renard Centre of Marine Geology (Belgium).

The third period (2019–present) consolidates my work on metals and floating litter within the Marine Geosciences Research Group, with papers in high-impact journals and participation in national and international projects. In 2025 I was appointed Assistant Professor at the UB and started my first project as principal investigator, IMPAS-Garraf, funded by the Catalan Water Agency. That same year I received the Carmina Virgili Award from the Science and Technology Section of the Institute for Catalan Studies.

Knowledge transfer has been a constant thread: as a senior consultant at Eurofins Cavendish (2022–2023) I supported the Barcelona Beaches Directorate on integrated coastal management, and I have acted as an expert in legislative proceedings at the Parliament of Catalonia and in reports of the Catalan Council for Labour, Economic and Social Affairs — always strengthening the link between scientific evidence and public regulation.
